Description:
The restoration of the Mudejar temple and garden at the Royal Monastery of Guadalupe was carried out under the auspices of the World Monuments Fund as part of the commemoration of the 1992 Quincentenary of Columbus' first voyage. The fame and importance of the Royal Monastery derive from the legendary discovery of the miraculous image of the Virgin at Guadalupe in the 13th century. The project, initiated in July of 1991, included the extensive restoration of the upper Ievel of the templr, the stabilization of the lower register and an interpretive reconstruction of the garden, based on historical evidence and archaeological data.
