Description:
Alvar Aalto designed three buildings for Estonia but only one was realized - the Villa Tammekann in Tartu. In the 1930's the Villa Tammekann was not built fully in accordance with Alvar Aalto's designs: however, the Tammekann family moved into the house in 1933. Turku University Foundation purchased the Villa Tammekann in 1998 and decided to renovate the house in keeping with Alvar Aalto 's designs with the support by the Alvar Aalto Foundation. Villa Tammekann- the Granö Centre for the Universities of Turku and Tartu- serves now as a base for cooperation between the universities of Turku and Tartu.
