Description:
In 2011 Bond Heemschut exist for 100 years. For 100 years Heemschut is dedicated to protecting historically interesting structures and sites in the Netherlands. It is in its name; 'Heemschut' derives from the words 'schutten' meaning to 'enclose' (i.e. protect) and 'heem', 'one's premises'. Heemschut does this work with the support of almost 7,000 dedicated members all over the Netherlands. Heemschut makes its voice heard when objects of historical and or cultural importance are at stake. Heemschut prefers to do this in advance by making municipalities and provinces aware of the historio-cultural importance of our built and man-made heritage. Heemschut asks for attention via campaigns, public events, lobby and consults. It uses its website and magazine as communication tools but also more contemporary tools as the SBS 6 broadcasting, in 2010. Heemschut is one of the founding fathers of heritage organizations like Vereniging Hendrick de Keijser (1918) and Vereniging de Hollandsche Molen (1923). Heemschut took care of the establishment of the municipal office for monuments and archeology of Amsterdam(1953) and plead for a national monument act in 1961. Finally, Heemschut was one of the founding fathers of Europa Nostra in 1965. This all under the protection of her Queen Majesty Beatrix.
