The origin of the present cathedral, dedicated to Our Lady and Saint Corentin, lies in the 13th century. In 1239 bishop Rainaldus decided to rebuild the old Romanesque choir in the Gothic style. The works, conducted in several stages, lasted for more than one and a half century. The vaults were built in 1416 and painted in 1417. The construction was resumed in 1424 on the western façade. In 1493 the vaults and paintings of the nave of the transept were completed. The restoration works of the choir of the cathedral begun in 1989 and were completed in 1993. The arches and the flying buttresses of the choir were consolidated. The exterior restoration of the masonry, the roof truss and the roof was made. The 19th century interior was restored (stalls, altars, mural paintings) also the historic stained glass of the 15th and 19th century and the polychrome of the 14th century.
