Description:
The mill on the Marne built in Noisiel by the architect Saulnier for the Menier chocolate factory in 1869 is an archetype of 19th century architecture with its "cage structure" in puddle iron and its polychrome brick facades as a pretext for an unusual decorative richness. in an industrial building. This revolutionary structure at the time served as a model for the first skyscrapers built in Chicago after 1880. This mill is part of a large industrial complex in which production has ceased only recently. Threatened with abandonment and demolition, the Société Nestlé France decided in 1994 to rehabilitate it and set up its head office there. This was the occasion for a fine restoration of the mill which thus regained its original splendor.
