Description:
Restoration of the castle, including the rehabilitation of the facade, the demolition of extensions which were spoiling the site, the reconstruction of the moats, the creation of a formal garden, and the refurbishment of the interior. Montmoyen Castle was built from 1632 to 1647 in Louis XIII style. It was weIl preserved until it became in 1956 a holiday resort, which mutilated the castle by the construction of an inner court yard, changes to the facades and the building of a metal and concrete flat three storeys high in the old formal garden . Most of the interiors also got lost. After having been abandoned for twenty years, it was acquired by Mr. and Mrs. Hamy in 1985, who restored it back to its original. The restoration work had many pleasant surprises: original ceilings were discovered under later pIaster as weIl as two painted chimneys, and in the dining room a trompe-l'oeil painting has been found. The parlours have been redecorated, including the repair of the parquet floors and the joinery.
