Description:
Abarca is a small village in the province of Palencia, in the region of Tierra de Campos. Abarca is a genuine representative of adobe architecture. Its economy is based on stockbreeding and agriculture. In the 18th century the Castilla Channel was constructed as a way of transport for the grain. During the first third of the 19th century a flour mill plant was built. During the mid-20th century a big part of the population emigrated to the cities and the flour mill plant was closed in the seventies, the buildings began to deteriorate. The streets of the village have been paved and illuminated by lamp-posts. The public places and squares have been landscaped and many trees have been planted. The Town Hall has been restored, as well as many houses, respecting the traditional style of the zone. The Osorio family palace and the church with its mudejar tower have been restored. Furthermore the flour mill plant was restored and adapted for a Contemporary Art Centre called "La Fábrica".
