Description:
The Beethoven-House, Beethoven's birthplace and since 1890 a museum and memorial place, was carefully restored in 1994-1996. The most important aim was to secure the predominant original substance of the house which was built in the late 17th or early 18th century. The bouse is important not only because Beethoven was born there in December 1770 but because it's one of only a very few civil dwelling-houses in Bonn which survived. The second major aim was to maintain the wonderful ambience of the house. Together with the restoration of the architecture there was the need to improve the preservation conditions in the museum area where the most important private Beethoven collection of the world is kept. Following the restoration, the permanent exhibition was to be renewed.
