Description:
Restoration of this city palace, a prime example of late 15th century civil architecture, and its rehabilitation for use as a Public Library. The Casa de las Conchas, built in 1492, is one of the most famous examples of the Spanish civil architecture of this period. For some years the building became vacant and rapidly experienced disrepair and then dereliction. Finally it was purchased by the Spanish Ministry of Culture which decided to rehabilitate it for use as a Public Library. The Casa de las Conchas has been fully restored, including the strengthening of the foundations, the reparation and rebuilding of the entire court yard and the repair and retiling of the roofs. As a result this important monuments has been saved , ensuring its future preservation for use as the main public library.
