Rehabilitation of a former Leather Factory by private initiative for housing use. The Leather Factory in Santiago de Compostela, situated in the Carmen de Abaixo suburb next to the historic Centre, was one of the most important leather factories in this City during the 18th and 19th century. Abandoned for several years, the buildings fell into decay. In 1986 a plan was developed by private initiative to convert the old factory to residential units. This imaginative conversion, which provided 18 larger and 13 smaller houses, was undertaken with great respect for the architectural characteristics of original complex.
