The Jury's citation: "The scientific and technical sophistication of this project commended it strongly to the Jury. The relatively short history of Hermoupolis does not make its architectural value less significant, and has enabled an amazingly detailed and accurate set of data to be compiled. The project is a model to promulgate the value of digitisation in the collection and maintenance of intelligence about Europe's architectural heritage, and ways in which our understanding of the complexity of the past and our response to it in future can be developed and become a basis for action"

Description:
Greek economic crisis has an effect on the country's historic heritage. Due to lack of funds for saving the Architectural History of Greece, one must develop methods and research for innovative ideas to save the greek heritage with low cost Conservation Plans. Ermoupolis, a unique city in the middle of Cyclades (Aegean Sea), is a fine example of Classical Architecture, a symbol of democracy.. This research proposed a multi criteria decision-making tool to rank the historic building's risk and an algorithm to test the reliability of the results. The Conservation Plan is used to save more then a 150 historic buildings at risk. Digitization of Historic Buildings using a free, open source web-publishing platform for displaying part of the research content was essential for the sustainability of the Conservation Plan. We opened our research data to citizens to involve them, increase awareness and get feedback from them.
