Description:
The use of perforated sails on windmills is an innovative patented technique for maintaining the construction and engineering of the windmills of the 1st wind park in Europe in Lasithi Plateau, which started to be constructed in 1910 and reached up to more than 10.000 windmills in 1950s. The pilot restoration of 20 windmills in the plain of the plateau with new technique of perforated sails has already shown promising results. This fact encourages the effort of the locals towards the restoration of all remaining windmills in the plain. The overall aim of the project is to use a patented innovation in old windmills promoting both the use of clean energy techniques in irrigation and the conservation of a unique and picturesque site of cultural heritage"
