The Jury's citation: The intervention on the Stüler's Neues Museum, situated in the centre of Berlin's Museum Island, involved securing the historic structures of the ruin, restoring and completing the building and connecting the Neues Museum to the surrounding museums and the New Entrance Building. This intervention was realised in a highly efficient and elegant way, giving an outstanding example and reference for the synchronic and complex use of the minimal-reconstruction and a highly sensitive contemporary architecture.

The project is the restoration of one of Berlin's most important 19th century museums, housing the Egyptian Collection and the collections of the Museum for Pre- and Early History. Situated in the centre of Berlin's Museum Island, Stüler's Neues Museum was the only structure still in its ruinous state from the war. The project involves securing the historic building fabric of the ruin, restoring and completing the building as well as connecting the Neues Museum on ground. level to the surrounding museums and the New Entrance Building on the Island.
