Description:
The Living Cabanyal Archive is a project with the fundamental aim to create awareness in the community about the value of the historical, social and artistic heritage of the Cabanyal neighbourhood of Valencia, Spain. This neighbourhood finds itself in a process of deterioration and in grave danger of disappearing due to the demands of town planning. The Living Cabanyal Archive is made up of a series of interventions taking place since 2011 in the Cabanyal, a series of publications and a website with the participation of the neighbours as well as the residents of the rest of Valencia and its region. The interventions occurred at different levels; for example in education (Aprendiendo con el Cabanya), Anthropology (Hablemos sobre el Cabanyal), Art (La Más Bella Playa), new technologies applied to art and entertainment (Derivas virtuales en el Cabanyal) and theoretical reflections upon Art, town planning and participation (Cabanyal. Patrimonio Cultural, participación ciudadana e iniciativas de futuro). The proposal by the Cultural Association Ésfera Azul has counted on the economic subsidizing of the Spanish Ministry of Culture and with the collaboration of specialists in different fields as well as neighbours, associations and local organizations.
