Description:
Restoration and reconstruction of the Fish Auction Hall. The Hall was planned in the former Prussian town of Altona and imitates the style of a Basilica. It served as a fishmarket until after the WWII, when it was badly damaged. The fish dealers then used the hall on a retail basis which led to the construction of many inner buildings and external additions. The building stood empty, decaying fast from 1970 until 1982 when it was decided to restore the building for the use as a Sunday fish market. The hall can also be used for various festive occasions. Many internal and out-buildings were removed, the roof removed and renewed and the glass dome re-built. All decorative elements were re- introduced. The problem of flooding has been alleviated, but prevents the installation of permanent seating or stage arrangements.
