Description:
The Renaissance Castle of Gifhorn represents a political and cultural symbol for the district. Originally built as defense building, later used for residences, administration and storage, addition of a prison in the 19th century. Redesign of the representative appearance to serve new uses for administration, museum, restaurant. Design principles: maintaining the existing buildings, closing the yard following the original layout, small scale but modern details, new additions in a modern style. Aims were to provide new uses, meeting modern-day requirements and building regulations. Steel girders used for facades and stair-cases to follow the design principles, creation of special lighting. Landscaping of yard and outside.
