Description:
The ironworks were founded in 1771 and operating till the early years of the 20th century. The buildings were then converted to agricultural uses. The processing buildings formed the core of a practically self-supporting works community with cottages, storage, bakery, shop and school. Restoration of the blast furnace and forge. In order to protect the blast furnace the casting house was reconstructed with its original proportions. Replacement of the rotten timber cladding. Reinforcing of the lower part of the furnace by the so-called deep-filling method. The restoration works and the development of the works serve as a rare example of collaboration in Finland, for there has been an exceptionally high number of interested parties more or less closely connected with it. Local craftsmanship has been used in restoration and traditional methods of constructing are being enlivened.
