Description:
Since the 14th century Chéniers Manor, dominating the valley of the Indre, was the seat of the "Sergant of the feudal estate", entrused with the supervision of the Chinon forest. Around 1530 the manor was renewed in Renaissance style. The present owner acquired the property in 1953. The restoration has been carried out with appropriate understatement. The building which was overgrown with vegetation is now complemented by a Cour d'Honneur, with box hedges and flowers, planted according to contemporary designs. Through new plastering, repair of the cross-bar windows and the fronton of the entrance porch, the façade has recovered its Renaissance character. The restoration was completed with the refurbishment of the interior, including mainly the removal of 19th century additions such as fake ceilings, later partitions, modern pavements etc. The Chapel, situated in the exterior court and converted into a bakery oven, has been restored to its original function with new leaded windows and new furniture.
