Description:
The Memoria Church was built in the third quarter of the 18th century on the Ajuda slope of Lisbon, designed by the architect Giovanni Carlo Galli da Bibbiena. In 1985 its dome was struck and partially destroyed by a bolt of lightning, which pratically smashed to pieces its clerestory and opened deep breaches. The mouldings on the main body were also damaged. Following research into the existing iconographic sources and an appraisal of the damages was made and it was decided to restore rigorousely the parts which had been destroyed using the same materials and specialized stonemasons.
