Description:
Princes Street Market is located in the centre of Cork's commercial area. The market, originally known as the Root Market and first opened in 1798, was completely destroyed by fire in 1980. The market has been painstakingly restored according to the original 1860 plans by Sir John Benson, whilst at the same time introducing modern elements to enhance the complex - for example: The magnificent trussed roof has been reproduced in laminated timber to increase the natural infiltration of light.
