Description:
The revitalisation of the historic market town of Wallingford was achieved by public initiative and the pride of the citizens and their involvement into the work. The council decided to concentrate on an attempt to revitalise the town and arrest its visible decline. It encouraged the repair and restoration of several neglected historic buildings but also set an example in restoring an old barn to serve as an office building. Market place was transformed from a car park to a pedestrian area. Restored and revitalized places and buildings: Market Place, The Corn Exchange, 5 - 8 Market Place, St Mary's Church, The Lamb Hotel, 5 - 7 Castle Street, Wallingford Castle, Wallingford Brewery, Barn, 23 St Martin's Street.
