Description:
D. Krohn's Institute was built in 1789 to serve as an old people's home for "14 members of the distinguished middle class". By 1918 it was decided to tear the house down, it was dilapidated and finally in 1939 the pensioners moved into a new building. In 1964 Bergen Municipality decided to erect a welfare center for aged people on this site. The antiquarian authorities submitted a plan to restore the once prominent old building, making it suitable as a welfare centre by building an additional wing. The alterations on the original building are minimal, keeping the original room-partition and rebuilding the original window sizes.
