Description:
Skånland consists of 9 buildings from the age between 1500 and 1918, a manor-house in Louis-IV style, cattlehouses, sea-houses. The estate is surrounded by a 2000-acres natural park of 2 - 500 years old pinetrees and 5 miles of coastline and is one of the finest biotops in Norway. The Mehrens family bought Skånland in 1967. All buildings were reduced in a state of decay. In the next 30 years the Mehrens restored them all with no official support and protected the park under Parliament act. The Tradinghouse in Salten is chosen as the project to best illustrate the approach to conservation which has been developed for this unique inheritance. The mixture of unsopoiled nature, 10 km coastline, ecological farming, beautiful buildings, and the heavy international history, make Skånland unique.
