Description:
Betliar Manor was originally a Renaissance manor, built on mediaeval foundations by the Bebek family. It was later owned (up to 1950) by the famous Hungarian noble family Andrassy. They only used the manor when they went to Betliar for hunting. Therefore they decorated the interiors with an enormous amount of hunting trophies, but apart from that they also collected fine art. Nowadays visitors can see nice collections of 17th - 20th century art: paintings, furniture, tapestries, porcelain and books (20.000 volumes). At the end of the 19th century the manor was transformed. Since 1953 it has been as a museum, receiving over 150.000 visitors a year. In 1989 extensive work was needed to safeguard this historic building. The restoration included structural repair and renovation of the technical installations. The interior was redecorated, including restoration and conservation of the works of art.
