Description:
The building in the old "Plaka" district of Athens dates from the early 19th century, but in its structure, major elements of the classic (5th century B.C.) and Byzantine periods were included. Aim of the project was the conservation of the layout of the house and its integration with the new uses. Particular care was given to structure, as this was seriously damaged, and to the preservation of the archaeological monuments discovered in the course of the work. Traces of Roman and Byzantine buildings (oil-press areas and jars) were also discovered.
