Description:
Complete restoration of the outside and adaptation of the inside for new and contemporary functionality. In 1969 the land round Castle Culzean became Scotland's first Country Park. In 1973 there were so many visitors that new reception facilities were needed. It was decided to restore the 18th century Home Farm buildings designed by Robert Adam to serve for this purpose. The Home Farm building were built in 1777, at the time when Adam was beginning work on the castle itself and, as a result, the buildings reflect the style of the great house. Over many months these have been restored, adapted to new purposes, and brought up to meet the stringent building regulations and provide: reception facilities, auditorium, exhibition and facilities for schools, restaurant, toilets, a National Trust for Scotland shop, a wet weather shelter, office space and a house.
