Description:
The scheme saved the vernacular buildings with all their associations to Robert Burns, etc.at the medieval road Glasgow Vennel -the main road to Glasgow till the 17th century. A small museum was found to inform visitors about R. Burns and show his residence. In spite of severe government cut-backs the project has been achieved through the Development Corporation acting as agents, selling off the derelict properties with the restoration included in the sales price. This ingenious approach attracted much public interest, enabling the Corporation, in collaboration with other bodies, to carry through the entire project. Restoration of the buildings and resurfacing of the road with stone sets laid in the traditional manner.
