Description:
Repair of a small windmill, thought to be England's oldest windmill, dating back to 1636. The type of structure is known as a post mill. It is a scheduled ancient monument and was working until 1927. Although maintenance has been undertaken over a period exceeding 50 years, it was only in 1982 that it became apparent that major repairs were needed. These have been completed in such a fashion that few visitors to the mill are aware that very much has happened to the mill since the miller left it.
