Description:
Restoration of a group of four remaining houses in a large complex along the River Limmat and conversion to residential units. The majority of the houses in this complex were renovated in 1975 - 4 units remained. The house Schipfe 39 dates back to 1549 and has been used from 1914 onwards as temporary home for the homeless. The buildings were restored to family flats and flats for elderly citizens. Restoration work revealed many late gothic elements which could be preserved. The units were converted to meet modern-day living standards. Modern insulation was provided through the building of second internal walls and insulated windows. The wooden staircases had to be changed into solid constructions to meet fire regulations.
