Description:
Restoration of two old residential houses, built 1851 - 1870 under threat of demolition and re-routing of traffic. One of the most picturesque part of the small town of Skaelskor. The exemplary nature of this project lies not only in what has been achieved, but how the work was carried out. Local people reacted to the threat of the total loss of this picturesque spot in their town, and formed a preservation society. With the eventual support of financial backing, they used local voluntary labour; encouraged young unemployed people to participate, and restored these lovely buildings using wood from redundant ships.
