Description:
Villa Saraceno, a Veneto farming villa to which a new owner's house was added by Andrea Palladio about 1546, was acquired by the UK-based Landmark Trust in 1989. Abandoned 15 years earlier, it was suffering terribly from damp and vandalism and all the villa's buildings were in an advanced state of decay. The aim of the Trust was to restore the complex, including extensive structural repairs, recovery of Palladio's floor plan and fenestration and the conservation of surviving 16th century plastered surfaces and contemporary frescoed friezes. Its future use and maintenance has been secured letting it for holidays.
