Description:
The town of Hjo was and is probably one of the finest wooden town ever created in Sweden. This dwelling house-type was once typical for most Swedish towns, but a great number of them was demolished in the 20th century. This threatened building typology, often created by the local carpenters and builders, is still alive at Hjo. The community of Hjo works steadily together with estate-owners and craftsmen to preserve not just single houses, but rather the totality of the buildings and thus the general aspect of the town.
