Major environmental renewal scheme for Springwood district, the inner urban area of Huddersfield, including housing improvement. Over the years Springwood had deteriorated to the point where it was scheduled for clearance. Following the listing of many of its Georgian and Victorian buildings by the Department of the Environrrent, support of local residents and the Historic Buildings Council it was declared a Housing Action Area/Conservation Area in 1981/82 and work began on the production of the first phase of an environmental improvement scheme. New build schemes, the promotion of housing association activity and the implementation of a major environmental renewal scheme, has Iea to a complete revitalisation and resurgence of the area.
