Description:
Conservation of the natural landscape allowing public enjoyment of the coast. The coast of the Lizard Peninsula, Britain's most southerly landscape, has suffered from ill-planned tourism, development and agricultural change. The National trust has progressively acquired two-thirds of the 23km. West coast and manages it to combine landscape and nature conservation with public enjoyment. Work carried out at three typical sites 1982-1989 demonstrates how conservation and tourism can be reconciled: Kynance Cove: restoration of an historic beauty spot. Predannack Wollas: the use of extensified farming to enhance an area of international Biological Importance. Poldhu Cove: restoration of a beach and dune system eroded by overuse
