Description:
The Margam Orangery is the largest orangery in Britain. Now, as well as being an 'active orangery' once again, it also houses a conference room, receptions, concerts and exhibition centre. 1973-1974: detailed plan of the project 1975: beginning of restorations work: make the roof safe and water tight. The relaying of the Orangery floor and the preparation of the foundations for the rear extension provided the opportunity into Cistercian Abbey remains. During restoration the elaborate fenestration of the front elevation was renewed. A firm produced replicas of the plasterwork frieze and other pavilion decorations which had perished and could not be reused. The damaged and broken statuary and urns on the front terrace were all either repaired or replace by replicas.
