Description:
Rehabilitation of two small Peak District villages, Monyash - a farming community, and Longnor - a market town. Both villages suffered from same problems: loss of population, loss of job opportunities and social facilities, environmental deterioration. The program based on three key concepts: individuality, involvement, interdependence. A series of initiatives were started, harmonizing the activities of public agencies and harnessing the skills and aspirations of the local population. 70 different schemes were carried out - renovation or rebuilding of buildings, re-paving of streets, reanimation of old traditions, creation of new jobs, starting of tourism enterprises, new maintenance of fields and their stone boundaries.
