Description:
The aim of the project was to bring the mill machinery into working order without losing the historic atmosphere of the building and its location: - corrugated iron roof was replaced with old clay peg tiles - the roof was strengthened by new rafters concealed behind the lime and hair plaster which is now visible between the original rafters - rotted windows were replaced, with the old glass carefully reused - mains drainage, electricity and water supply were installed In 1913 the original breast shot waterwheel was removed and replaced by a Jones "Little Giant" water turbine with 18" diameter rotor and rated about 10 horsepower. - the machinery was in good condition but the water turbine had seized due to disuse and was dismantled and cleaned out by sand blasting. - numerous drive shafts, belts and pulleys have been reassembled The working mill is now an attractive focal point on the public footpath, enhancing the environment and providing an educational resource.
