Description:
Robert Adam´s design for Baron Orde was based on the well-established Palladian villa form. The aim of the project was to restore the main rooms with as much historical accuracy as possible, for use as the everyday entrance to the College and to provide reception, meeting and function rooms, all of which were considered well suited to the character of the original rooms. The first phase of the ambitious restoration programme has involved significant works to eight important rooms, the stairs and hall, on the ground and principal floors of the house. Two missing decorative plaster ceilings and four chimneypieces were recreated; the stairs were reinstated after the removal of an intrusive lift shaft; and the original decorations, joinery and plaster finishes were restored throughout. In addition, new furniture and furnishings have been designed and made to suit the principal rooms.
