Description:
Waddesdon Manor and Garden were created at the end of the 19th century by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild, at the height of the family's influence in European affairs. At the time, it was one of over 60 Rothschild houses in Europe; now the only house that survives complete with its original contents and garden. The Garden, in its heyday, was one of the most lavish and influential examples of high Victorian horticultural taste but fell into decline in the post-war years and all its characteristic Victorian features were lost. An extensive restoration programme was effected to recreate the garden's original splendour.
