Description:
Westminster Hall in London is one of Europe's most important medieval halls and the oldest surviving part of the Palace of Westminster. Dating from the late 11th century, the Grade I listed building forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Between 2010 and 2020, a three-phase conservation programme undertaken by Donald Insall Associates and Alan Baxter Ltd in collaboration with the UK Parliament restored the historic masonry, medieval hammer-beam roof, roof lantern, windows and sculptural details. Innovative techniques included nano-lime consolidation of medieval carvings and latex poultices for sensitive stone cleaning. The project also introduced the Queen's Jubilee Window, improved accessibility, upgraded drainage and discreet modern services. The conservation safeguarded the building's historic character while supporting its continued use for parliamentary ceremonies, public visits and national events. Copy Description
