Inverary Jail, the former County Courthouse and prison of Argyll was restored to a very high standard in 1980-1984. Further restoration work was undertaken in 1988-1989. Exhibitions were installed and the premises opened to the public in May 1989. The former prison airing yards were rebuilt in 1990-1991on the original foundations and using the original architects drawings of 1840.
