Description:
Christian VII's Mansion at Amalienborg Square is used by the Danish Royal Family to house prominent guests and hold receptions. It was built as one of four noble mansions ringing the square by architect Niels Eigtved from 1750-54, and acquired by the Royal Family in 1794. The exterior of the mansions was restored by completely replacing the sandstone facades and recarving the sandstone decorations from 1982- 93. The interior of the mansion was renovated and redecorated from 1993-96, including the integration of intruders and fire alarm systems. The original Vestibule, dismantled in 1796 when the Royal Family acquired the mansion, has been recreated .
