Restoration projects undertaken by the Gelderland Castles Trust, in order to safeguarde the architecture and find new uses for the buildings now opened to the public. The five castle and historic houses were in poor condition when handed over to the trust and could only preserved by a thorough restoration. Many problems had to be solved in safeguarding the qualities of the historic architecture and in finding new destinations for the buildings. *Canneburch Castle, Vaassen: manor house founded in 1543, extended in 1661, renovated in 1751, exterior and interior restoration. *House Landfort, Megchelen: country house founded in the 16th century, modified in 1825, restoration of the exterior between 1979 and 1981. *House Verwolde, Laren: manor house built in 1776, restoration of house and gardens in 1979-1982. The house was refurbished. *Zypendaal Castle, Arnhem: moated country house built in 1762, tower added in 1883. House and gardens restored between 1979 and 1983. The headquarters of the Gelderland Castles Trust and her sister organization Stichting Het Geldersch Landschap were installed on the upper floors. *Doorwerth Castle: moated castle, originating from about 1280, extended in the 15th and 16th century. Restoration stated in 1946, responsibility for the rebuilding was taken over the Gelderland Castles Trust in 1956. Opened to the public in 1986 *Rosendael Castle: moated manor house rebuilt after a fire in 1412, modified and enlarged in 1615, 1722 and again in the 19th century. 1989: restoration on doing of the building and gardens.
