Description:
St. Andrews Church was built in 1739-56 and soon became the focal point of an extensive residential square in the heart ofthe old city of Glasgow. As part of a larger scheme of urban renewal, the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust acquired the now redundant grade 'A' listed building in 1994 and began an uncompromising programme of restoration and adaptive re-use. St. Andrews has been fully restored to its former classical grandeur, and has been given a new inspirational lease on life as a venue for traditional Scottish music, dance, and song. To achieve this it was necessary to excavate beneath the nave to create an entirely new "lower aisle" in order to better accommodate the building's new function.
