Description:
The Apprentice House at Styal was built about 1790 to house the pauper apprentices, up to one hundred in number, who worked at Quarry Bank Mill. It's tought to be the only example of this historically important building type ta survive. The wealth of archive material extant, together with modern archeological techniques, has been used in the restoration of the house to its conditian about 1830. Interpreted through guided tours by costumed demonstrators and by 'living history' days it represents a unique opportunity ta experience the institutional life of child workers in the early industrial revolution.
