The unique transformation and careful conservation of the 19th century cavalry barracks from accommodations for a dragoon regiment to a multi art-center and music conservatory were carried out between 1978 and 1989 . With great care and respect the former riding school was renovated preserving its original simple style ftom the early national industrialism. The previous military academy has been preserved with similar care and attention to details. Situated in the city center opposite the town hall and adjoining the newly erected ultra modern music hall, the conserved barracks combined with an outdoor stage, activity area and gardens greatly enhance the heart of Arhus by creating a cultural oasis.
