Description:
The renovation of the Whitchurch Silk Mill dates from 1985 when the building was under threat of demolition. The building has been restored and internal improvement made, bringing it up to modern standards, but at the same time the ancient process of silk production was preserved and, in particular, the use and function of the original 1890 waterwheel. Outbuildings have been renovated and converted to provide a shop, visitor centre and two refurbished cottages. The chalkblock inner wall and outer brick skin construction needed restoration work. Landscaping of the surroundings with a newly built oak bridge that links the site with the car park.
