Description:
Between September 1988 and May 1991 the Teutonic Knights have restored their historic headquarters, the commandery "Weggenstein" in Bolzano together with St.George's Church that belongs to it. The commandery tower that was destroyed during the war was re-erected to its original height and restored. The fronts. the windows, the sandstone linings and the inner courts got back their original forms dating from the baroque era. Of particular importance is the restoration of nine rooms with stucco decoration; six of the stucco ceilings were only discovered after the false ceilings and partition walls built-in in later times had been removed. All the stuccoes had been covered with numerous coats of paint and had to be cleaned; missing parts had to be replaced. The commandery "Weggenstein", together with its church and tower. is one of the nost outstanding buildings of the town of Bolzano and is one of its historical landmarks.
