Description:
Restoration of an abandoned industrial complex, founded in 1929 and located in the down-graded western part of Thessaloniki, and conversion into a cultural-recreational centre. All the building's structural and morphological features (masonry, timberwork, door- and window-frames, roofing system) were restored and preserved. Functional needs and the current emergency and safety requirements have been incorporated in a discreet way. Existing amenities have been preserved. Structural interventions in the interior were kept to a minimum only to enable the various areas to function more rationally. Improvement to the outdoor area: Installation of an adequate drainage and fire-fighting system, new pavements and creating of a small square, preservation of existing trees, new outdoor furniture and installation of an open air cinema and concert place.
