The restoration of the Venetian City Gate of Famagusta was the first project in Cyprus for the restoration and re-use of a historic monument, now a cultural centre. Exterior Special difficulties to carry out this project: - no provision in the governmental and municipal budgets, expenses had been covered by donations from citizens and associations; - a team of experts - all volunteers - gathered from various appropriate bodies and associations overtook the work; - many technical problems to be solved especially the humidity in the limestone structure, and modern installations.
